I am experiencing this as of late. Being averse to doctors and medicines in general, I have been dealing with this for the past week on my own. I believe the origins of this were when I cut my finger with a pair of scissors. The cut was substantial. I did pour some disenfectant speciafically made for cuts, but reopened the wound a day later when I hit it against something.
I believe I developed an infection from this and consequently my body has developed an inflamation. During the day it is bearable as I am mobile, and on a pain scale of 1 to 10 it is only a 1. But at night when I am immobile the pain jumps up to about a 4. One cannot sleep well when having to deal with a 4.
On a good day I am only getting about 5 hours sleep, on a bad day considerbly less. I am eating berries and broccoli, and using olive oil which are well known anti inflamatories, as well as green tea.
Any advice as to how I can get a good night's sleep without having to take pills, would be useful. Hot baths do help but only for about 30 minutes as the pain always returns.

There is an herb called pau d' arco (lapacho, taheebo, Ipe roxo) that I really like for things like this. The herb contains 18 antiseptic anthraquinones and napthaquinones as well as 5 anti-inflammatory compounds. I recommend 3 capsules, 3 times daily on an empty stomach.
Sometimes I will add licorice root, which is also an antiseptic, and a steroidal anti-inflammatory that supports the adrenal glands that produce the body's own anti-inflammatory corticosteroids. If taking pau d' arco powder instead of capsules, the licorice root also helps to mask the flavor as licorice root is 50 times sweeter than sugar.
Supporting the adrenals is always a good idea, but especially in cases of inflammatory issues. Vitamin C is the most important nutrient for the adrenals followed b pantothenic acid (B5).
A simple, old remedy for helping to pull infections out of wounds is to take the inside of a raw potato and grate it up. The potato is packed over the infected area and held in place with a gauze other wrap for a couple of hours.
I recommend dropping the green tea and switching to rooibos (red tea, honey bush) tea instead. Green tea and other teas from the tea plant (Camellia sinesis) is loaded with fluoride, which suppresses thyroid function, Suppression of the thyroid increases inflammatory homocysteine. Rooibos contains an anti-inflammatory and immune supporting compound virtually identical to superoxide dismutase (SOD), and is 30 times stronger as an antioxidant than green tea
